Religulous - To be or not to be

Bill Maher's documentary film on religion or rather against any form of religion raises very pertinent questions. Although the questions are not new but they do try to shake the base of every religion - "faith".
Bill attacks all religions, does not believe in God and asks everyone he meets "Is faith good?"

My take on the doc and the subject it deals with...

The premise of the movie is something I am completely in sync with. That goes "Religion has done more harm than good to people till now"
Even before the Holy Wars, religion has spurred on people to kill. The irony being, no religion preaches killing other human beings. But then, do people really care?
No Christian behaves like Christ, no Jain like Mahavira and so on....

It is all around us.

Again, we must realize that man has been out of jungle for only 25000 years. That's very little part of the human history which involved killing everyday to survive. When man became "civilized" the violent instincts were far from curbed.
Cause of Religion provides the much needed vent for these feelings.
I can write on this phenomenon for long but no...let me do it my way....
Standing before me is someone who has picked a weapon in the name of religion.
Ok...
I ask .....is there a more stupid thing in the world than this person?
Either the guy is criminally insane or just plain stupid.
The most common cause is the need to "save" the religion from non-believers.
Now that is the height of arrogance! someone trying to "save" religion. Simply reeks of hypocrisy coz religion is an individual affair. It is entirely up to an individual how he wishes to live, how he wishes to connect to God. If one has "faith" his religion is unshake-able. NO need for any saviours.
I believe no two people can have same religion, as no two persons are alike.
I also believe religion to be a private affair between God and an individual, so private it can not be described to others..
Realize this........to commit a crime is easier when one is part of a crowd. Think about it, one would hesitate to bring down Govt building alone but a mob will do it with ease. Hence, the need of religion to do all heinous crimes.

Bill Maher's documentary may not be factually correct at all places..but it does shows the utter irrelevance of religion when there are far more pertinent problems facing the world today.
Global warming, water shortage, food shortage, lack of basic education, population explosion are very real problems which will become more and more acute. But is it really worthwhile to remain busy killing for some idea called "religion". Is it?

(All through the post, i have targeted men, somehow I believe women could have handled this world better, had they got the chance........More on women in my next post!)

The Perfect "Shape"

To begin with, the word "friend" is frequently used rather..abused by each one of us..Who, then is a friend and what is a friend's purpose?

My take on friendship on these lines.....

Let's look at the potter a bit differently. What is his goal everytime he starts creating a pot? Simple, to achieve the perfect round shape and smooth finish. In every pot he makes he strives to achieve that perfection which gives him a creative satisfaction besides means of livelihood. It is so deeply engrained in the potter's mind that he does not stop till he has achieved "that" Shape which gives him everlasting sense of accomplishment.

Ever wondered about this special bond between the potter and the "shape" of his articles...?

This is exactly what a friend would do for you..I don't say "true" friend coz there is no need for that.Either one is a friend or one is not. There is no other adjective required.  This is like love, either you love someone or not, there is no degree to it, nothing like more love , less love..

So, coming back to the potter and his efforts, what do we observe? The potter is constantly but oh.... so very gently patting his pots to achieve the perfect round shape. Interestingly, he never beats too hard, else, the pot would break or get disfigured. On the contrary, he keeps one of his hands inside the pot supporting it from inside so that it stays intact. This is the relationship between two friends, where each one is trying to "make the perfect shape" out of the other.
This is not only true for friends but teacher and a student also.
A friend or a student ideally, will always understand what the "potter" intends with his gentle pats.

And this is how the perfect "Shape" is achieved.

The Mother of the 'Pepper-Spray’ can!

I watched this movie recently after a long time. Last time, I watched, it was way back when DD One used to thrust movies in our face ever...
